LETTER: It's true that downtown parking isn't an issue - for some

GuelphToday received the following letter about the need for downtown parking.

In response to Rene Luehof's letter, Downtown parking really isn't much of an issue,

I agree that parking isn't much of an issue ... for some. I too choose to live close to downtown. I also choose to not have a personal car and use the local cars-share for those few trips a month that are too cumbersome to use transit. I choose to use transit, not because I don't have a car, rather, because it is the most economical option for my wallet and my planet.

We absolutely need the updated downtown central library for so many reasons, including the parking that goes with it. On Sept. 6, committee of the whole received a staff report titled Downtown Parking Master Plan, 2023-323, which includes many potential solutions which city staff have put forth. The Downtown Parking Master Plan is a five-year plan that will get us through the Baker District construction of the next municipal parking garage and set up us for a comprehensive plan when the downtown revitalization construction begins in earnest.

If you have some commentary, or some solutions you would like to add, please sign up to delegate at the city council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26, or send a letter to council. You can find the agenda and video of the meeting from Sept 6 here.

City staff have worked hard to put forward parking solutions for the time until the downtown revitalization is started and I believe that this DPMP is what Guelph needs.
