GuelphToday received the following letter suggesting the new library be delayed for a different purpose.
Further to the letter from Marilyn Pypa regarding management of the homeless in our community, has there been any thought given to delaying the new library to temporarily utilize the Baker Street footprint for a social services management facility, including food, shelter, clothing, health and rehabilitation service functions?
Whatever form of development takes place later, I can’t think of a more human and fitting way to commemorate it. One that the whole community would be proud with every visit. And for those who were served, a symbol of how much Guelph cared for them in their time of need.
Right now, let’s focus on housing people, not books.
