Driver charged with impaired had four times legal limit of alcohol: OPP

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On July 3, 2020 at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 109 near Concession 11 involving a possible impaired driver.

Investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was travelling westbound when they pulled out to pass another westbound vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle, struck the gravel shoulder and came to rest in the ditch.

Officers located the driver sitting in the vehicle and while speaking with them determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The accused was transported to a nearby OPP Operation Centre for further testing where they blew in excess of four times the legal limit.

Dana Bowden, 39 years old of Arthur has been charged with impaired operation and impaired operation - 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Aug. 4, 2020.
