Summer is meant to be a fun time for kids.

But without services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters, some youth in our community may not have the opportunity to engage in mentorship programs that are crucial for youth development.

With this in mind, GuelphToday embarked on a campaign to raise much-needed funds for our local Big Brothers Big Sisters branch with an online fundraising drive - and we asked you, our loyal readers, to help us.

The online fundraiser was simple. GuelphToday pledged to match community donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters made through our online pop-up store.

But that’s not all.

We were able to leverage the power of our community to make the donations even bigger by asking our local business partners to match our donation.

Anthony Homes, ArtMED Cosmetic Medicine, Aido Climate, Atilola Real Estate, Auto Clinic Guelph, Billyard Insurance, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits, East Side Mario’s, Flying Dutchman Cleaning, Hartmann Windows & Doors, McKenzie Lake Lawyers, Meridian Credit Union, OnPurpose TRANSFORMATIONS, Parada Dentures, Play with Clay and Right at Home Canada all answered the call.

With their support, and yours, every dollar donated through our pop-up store was matched with all proceeds going to our local Big Brothers Big Sisters.

In Guelph, the generosity of our readers and advertisers translated into a donation of $7,375 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Thank you for helping us to strengthen our community and make this the best summer ever for local youth here in Guelph.
