Pizza and Indian food can make for a tasty combination and has for many years in one Guelph neighbourhood.
Two Plus Pizza is in new hands as Gurjot and Robin Singh take over the popular pizza place at 208 Yorkshire St. N. this month.
The pair plan to keep much of the menu the same, keeping the favourite Indian dishes, but with some exciting modifications, and really expanding on the pizza side of the business.
“We will add a few changes to the menu, still with the popular Indian options but with a focus on a true style pizza,” Robin said.
The pair from Brampton look forward to being part of the Exhibition Park community, at the ‘mom and pop’ style pizza shop that has become a staple in the neighbourhood.
“We are new to this area. The great thing about the community is the nearby school, so every day we get to meet new kids, and that’s been really great so far,” Gurjot said.
“We really want to do this to gain some experience. We look forward to learning a lot from this location and maybe in the future, we can expand.”
Since taking ownership, there have been some changes made, with more on the horizon.
"Our vision is big. We hope to open more stores like this in about two years. We will also be renovating this shop very soon. It will look quite different inside," Gurjot said.
Gurjot has previous experience working in a pizza style restaurant and Robin managed a convenience store before making a career move to Guelph.
“It’s not a franchise, so it’s easier for us that way,” Robin said.
“With a franchise you have to follow protocol, and a certain way of doing things. Here we have freedom to learn and modify things. And the previous owners were kind enough to help us out before we took over. They trained us fully, so that was great.”
The key for Gurjot and Robin is to keep the essence of what the restaurant has always been about: pizza plus Indian food.
“Our pizza is one of the best. And many have said that the best gluten free pizza is made here,” Robin said.
“We make pizza from scratch, from beginning to end, not from frozen dough."
Two Plus Pizza offers a wide selection of pizzas, including Punjabi and butter chicken pizza, wings, spicy combos, Indian dishes including curries, chicken Biryani and butter chicken, pakoras, samosas kabob rolls, and a wide selection of beverages.
The restaurant has extended hours to include; Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 12 a.m. and Sundays, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“I think people should come and try it. A lot of pizza stores just offer pizza, but here we have something unique with options that include pizza and Indian food,” Gurjot said.
“We are happy to be in Guelph. It’s very peaceful and friendly place. And we have many choices to offer, all under one roof."
