LETTER: New waste collection rules hurt some

If members of council were not aware of the widespread effect of this change before they voted perhaps they should revisit this issue

GuelphToday received the following letter about the city's decision to stop collecting garbage from many churches and small businesses.

Dear Sir or Madam

Having just recently been made aware of the change in waste collection to start on March 1 we wonder if it is the City of Guelph’s intention to force small businesses not in malls or downtown and institutions (churches) out of business?

Churches are having enough trouble making ends meet with increasing maintenance costs and smaller congregations and they provide a valuable resource for many secular and religious groups.

If members of council were not aware of the widespread effect of this change before they voted perhaps they should revisit this issue. If they were aware of the domino consequences of this change then many of us obviously voted for the wrong politicians.

Sincerely,

Mark and Grace Evans
