At 10 a.m. this morning, 1,301 elementary students in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph were handed suspensions for overdue required vaccines.

Required vaccinations include measles, mumps, meningitis, rubella, pertussis, polio, tetanus, and diphtheria.

Some students may not be up-to-date with the required immunizations, while others simply might not have updated their records with public health.

Students will be suspended until April 17 unless they complete outstanding vaccinations, update their vaccination records or provide a medical, philosophical or religious exemption.

That number includes elementary students in the Wellington Catholic District School Board, the Upper Grand District School Board, and three additional Catholic schools in Dufferin County, which are part of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District Board.
