2022 sunshine list includes over 1,000 U of G employees

Women ruled the local sunshine list in 2022.

The annual sunshine list is out for 2022, which discloses the salary of public sector employees across the province who were paid at least $100,000. 

Four of the top five on the local list were women.

University of Guelph president Charlotte Yates was the top earner, getting paid $423,648 last year. Her taxable benefits came in at just shy of $11,000.

U of G came up frequently atop the list, with 14 of the top 20 on the Sunshine List being employees of the university. In total 1,137 U of G employees were on the list.

Next on the list is Dr. Nicola Mercer, the medical officer of health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. Her salary came in at $387,874. Her taxable benefits were $5,607.

U of G past-president and professor Franco Vaccarino made $387,132 and the lone male in the local top five.

Marianne Walker, the former president of Guelph General Hospital who recently retired, earned $382,073.

Rounding out the top five was Lysa Porth, the U of G provost and vice-president, earning $316,506. Her taxable benefits totalled $1,333.

Overall, 2,099 people on the list were identified as working in the public sector in Guelph.

Guelph police had 188 members make the list, up from the 170 identified on the 2021 list. Police Chief Gord Cobey earned $255,803.
