BREAKING: Body of missing Guelph man found

Cody Thompson had been missing since April 1

Guelph Police report the body of missing Guelph man Cody Thompson has been found.

A media release around noon Sunday stated "a body was found in an area of the Eramosa River in Guelph. The body has been confirmed as missing person, Cody Thompson. Police investigation is on going."

No other details were immediately available.

Thompson, who battled addiction issues, was last heard from on April 1 when he phoned his dad from the area of the covered bridge just south of downtown Guelph. A part of a photocopy of his birth certificate was also found in the area.

Extensive police search and a search of the area by relatives, friends and other volunteers last Saturday proved fruitless.

At the time his brother Brock Hemming said family was preparing for the worst.

"That's the worst part. The not knowing," said Cody's other brother Brandon at the time. "The longer it goes the harder it is on the family. Just wondering, that's the hardest part."

Thompson was 24.
