The intersection of Speedvale Avenue East and Woolwich Street is set to close June 16 to 19.

A busy intersection in the city’s north end is slated to close for four days in June.

The shut down at Speedvale Avenue East and Woolwich Street is set to begin June 16 and run through June 19 to accommodate a road-widening project and infrastructure upgrades at the railway tracks.

“Area residents and businesses can expect construction noise overnight as crews work to complete the project as quickly as possible over the weekend,” explains a post on the city’s website. “Businesses will remain open during construction.”

The work is part of a larger project along Speedvale Avenue East, from Glenwood Avenue to east of the tracks, as well as the areas just north and south on Woolwich Street.

Efforts are underway to widen the road, install new sidewalks or multi-use paths, as well as upgraded underground sewer pipes and watermains.

Railway signals and barrier gates are also being upgraded at the tracks.

“Detour routes will be posted, and delays should be expected,” the post notes. “Please follow the signs for your safety.”
