The Community Breastfeeding Collaborative of Guelph is supporting a number of upcoming events to spread awareness that breastfeeding is a normal and important part of child and maternal health.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, the 6th annual Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge will take place at the Quebec Street Shoppes from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The goal of the international challenge is to be the site where the largest number of children are latched on at the same time.
At this year’s challenge, life-size cut-outs of local women nursing their children will be on display. Everyone in attendance is invited to take a selfie with a cut-out and post it on Twitter @LetsTalkParents or Facebook @LetsTalkParenting with this hashtag: #BreastfeedAnywhereWDG.
In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (Oct. 1-7), the breastfeeding cut-outs will be on display at various locations throughout Guelph. The public will have the opportunity to take a selfie with a cut-out until Oct. 16 at the Dawson Medical Centre, the Guelph Y, Smitten Apparel, the Guelph General Hospital, the Guelph Community Health Centre, and the Ontario Early Years Centre (Stone Road Mall).
Background:
The Community Breastfeeding Collaborative of Guelph is a group of community members and staff from local organizations committed to supporting breastfeeding in the community. Members include individuals from the Guelph Community Health Centre, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, Guelph General Hospital, La Leche League Canada – Guelph, Guelph Family Health Team, Guelph Midwives, Family Midwifery Care of Guelph, Beginnings Family Services Guelph, The Association of Ontario Doulas, and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action.
