Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. (Guelph Hydro), the electricity distribution company serving more than 53,000 customers in Guelph and Rockwood, Ontario, announces the appointment of the following new Board members, effective June 20, 2016:
Robert J. Huggard
Mr. Robert (Bob) J. Huggard, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Energy Association, has been reappointed to the Guelph Hydro Board of Directors.
A recognized leader in the energy sector, Mr. Huggard has held senior executive positions with Enbridge Inc., The Consumers Waterheater Income Fund and Direct Energy.
Mr. Huggard has served on the boards of Crius Energy, ProAction Cops and Kids, SCITI Total Return Trust and The Consumers Waterheater Fund.
During his tenure on the Board of Directors of Guelph Hydro from June 2011 to June 2014, Mr. Huggard served on the Finance and Audit Committee and the Human Resources and Compensation Committee.
Mr. Huggard has a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He received his icd.d designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2008.
George Mitges
Mr. George Mitges, a professional agrologist and President of the Niagara Branch of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists, has been appointed to the Guelph Hydro Board of Directors.
Mr. Mitges acquired an in-depth understanding of Ontario’s electricity distribution sector while serving for eight years as an independent director on the Board of Niagara Peninsula Energy, Inc.
He was the General Manager and an Ex-Officio Board Member of Vineland Growers’ Cooperative for five years and has also served on the Boards of the Albright Manor and Edelheim Apartments, The Antique and Classic Boat Society and the Waynesboro Hospital Corporation.
Mr. Mitges has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario and is certified as a Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) from the Ontario Institute of Agrologists in Guelph.
As of June 20, 2016, the Board of Directors of Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. consists of: Ms. Jane Armstrong, Chair; Councillor Phil Allt; Mr. Robert M. Bell; Mr. Robert Huggard and Mr. George Mitges and Councillor Michael Salisbury.
