Guelph Pride says it stands with LGBTQIA2S+ people and especially students who were affected by the vandalism of a Pride Flag at Sacred Heart Catholic School on Saturday.
Guelph police were informed about the incident by a local citizen who reported that the flag appeared to be ripped down and was on the ground.
Police canvased the area but were unable to recover the flag.
In a statement, Guelph Pride said it hopes a new Pride Flag will be flown at the school soon and that this is an opportunity to recognize the hate that the LGBTQIA2S+ community still experiences, even in Guelph.
"We encourage everyone in the community to show your love and support for the LGBTQIA2S+ children on your windows, cars, sidewalks, and bags," said Guelph Pride in the statement.
It hopes schools use this action to fund and form gay-straight alliances and LGBTQIA2S+ learning experiences.
"Allyship is more than just raising the flag and wearing a pin but when symbols are destroyed we must replace them 10 times to show that there is more love in our community than they realize," said the statement.
