As the Speedvale Avenue reconstruction project progresses, city officials are preparing for a couple of October shutdowns around a major north end intersection.
In separate posts on the city's website, officials announced the south side of the Woolwich Street intersection will be closed in both directions for a week, beginning Oct. 2, along with the shutdown of eastbound lanes in the area from Oct. 10 through 26.
During the eastbound lane closure, traffic will be allowed to flow north and south along Woolwich.
“This closure is necessary for workers to install the new storm sewer and sanitary pipes, which will improve existing and future services across Guelph,” both posts explain, noting businesses in the area will remain open during construction. “Detour routes will be posted, and delays should be expected.”
In addition to underground infrastructure replacement, the overall project involves the installation of new sidewalks or multi-use paths, as well as the installation of rail line barrier gates at Speedvale Avenue and Woolwich Street.
