A Change of Pace restaurant has been in a Morriston plaza for 20 years. The restaurant will close its doors for good after Dec. 17.

MORRISTON – A familiar name to some is filling the hole left in Morriston when a beloved diner closed its doors.

The Highway 6 spot formerly occupied by A Change of Pace will become a Rise & Shine location, the second after the one in Downtown Guelph, with an aim to open in early February.

It will be Katrina Marshall’s third restaurant, co-owned with her husband Taj. She also owns Breezy Corners further down Highway 6 which she bought from her dad not too long ago.

“So Change of Pace is right in the middle between the two locations and it’s basically a small town diner, that’s exactly what we love,” Marshall said in a phone interview, later adding the community is busy because of the highway that runs through it.

Marshall grew up in Morriston before moving to Guelph and was sad to hear about A Change of Pace owner Irene Carr’s decision to retire and close the restaurant after 30 years.

However, the timing ended up being right for Marshall to expand as she and her husband had recently entered into a partnership with two close friends to share ownership.

The menu will be similar to what is in the Guelph location which Marshall described as a mix of the traditional American breakfast combined with West Indian and East Indian flavours.

“We’re going to do dinners there as well … we’ll do 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week I think,” Marshall said.

She said she was looking forward to this spot getting to be the neighbourhood pub, similar to what she had when she went off to university.

“A place where you could walk down the street have breakfast and then you could come back later for beer and wings,” Marshall said. “I’m excited to get close to the community.”
