Restaurant to give roughly 150 free vegetarian meals on Christmas Day

Kirtida’s Kitchen is giving out free vegetarian meals, no questions asked

The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Guelph.

Kirtida’s Kitchen is yet another business giving out free meals to anyone who shows up to their doors between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Kirtida's is located at 265 Eramosa Rd., between Stevenson and Metcalfe.

Owners of Kirtida’s Kitchen, Kirtida Jagad and Hitesh Jagad will be handing out free vegetarian meals that include two types of curries, rice, dessert and naan bread.

They expect to hand out nearly 150 meals in the four hours but if more people show up, Hitesh said he’s willing to meet the demand.

“We are not asking anybody any questions to get the meal,” said Hitesh.

Hitesh said he is aware that some community members have food preferences and allergies that he wishes to accommodate.

“If there are any allergies like gluten, dairy free, vegan, we will give them a meal accordingly to make sure that they have the food that they can enjoy,” said Hitesh.

He said the pandemic once again is putting people in a difficult situation.

“This year we're doing it for the community so that nobody can stay hungry and nobody is left out in the festival season,” said Hitesh.

Last year the restaurant handed out free meals to The Bench during the festive season. Early December, it sponsored public skating events at West End Community Centre to give back to the community that supported it during the pandemic.

Gin Mill in Downtown Guelph will also be giving out free meals starting at 5 p.m. on Friday until the food runs out.
