Shell seeks permission for car wash at gas station

Council to consider request for site at Edinburgh Road and Speedvale Avenue on Feb. 14

A car wash could be coming to a busy north end intersection.

The company that owns 145 Speedvale Ave. W. – home to a Shell Canada gas station and convenience store – is proposing to rearrange the site and has requested permission from the city to add a car wash to the property.

City council is slated to consider that request during its Feb. 14 planning meeting.

“The proposed redevelopment will create an enhanced public realm and pedestrian oriented site,” states a planning justification report submitted to the city and posted online. “The proposed automatic car wash will be safely incorporated into the site design to ensure a high quality public realm and safe pedestrian environment.”

In order for the car wash to be built, a zoning bylaw change from Specialized Convenience Commercial to Specialized Neighbourhood Shopping Centre as been requested.

The Feb. 14 council meeting will be held at city hall and is available for in-person viewing, with a 6:30 p.m. start time. It will also be streamed live at guelph.ca/live.

The deadline to register as a delegate or make a written submission to council to consider is Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. To register, visit guelph.ca/delegation, call 519-837-5603 or email [email protected].
