Guelph police have arrested a man for a string of alleged crimes dating back several days, including robbing a store of a pack of smokes while brandishing a stick.
Police say last Thursday the man approached another male in the downtown core of the City of Guelph. He ripped a cigarette out of his mouth, pulled another male’s ponytail several times and ran away.
At 9:35 p.m., the man entered a business located near the intersection of Speedvale Avenue East and Stevenson Street North. He was carrying a six-foot-long wooden stick and demanded the cashier give him cigarettes. The cashier complied, providing him with a package valued at $17.19 and the male fled on foot.
At 10:50 p.m., the man entered a business located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue West. He was still carrying the stick, and proceeded to steal numerous products valued at $25, before leaving on foot.
On Friday around 5:30 p.m. police found him in the downtown core and he was arrested.
A 49-year-old Guelph man has been additionally charged with:
- Fail to attend court
- Robbery
- Theft under $5,000
- Assault
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently released.
