The Old Marina plans to rebuild

The Old Marina Restaurant announces it will rebuild after devastating fire

The Old Marina in Puslinch has announced it will be rebuilt and once again to serve the community.

In a Facebook post, the Old Marina thanked the community for rallying behind the restaurant and helping support them in this difficult time.

“We are working with our landlord, the McClintock family, who continues to be incredibly supportive, to start the long journey that we hope will see us back to serving the community,” said The Old Marina in the Facebook post.

The eatery that's been frequented by Waterloo region diners for decades has received an outpouring of support from those who have made memories there over the years.

"Sending supportive thoughts. We look forward to celebrating with you again one day when you reopen. We shared so many happy times at the OMR and look forward to continuing the tradition. You mean so much to our community. Take care of each other," wrote one Facebook user.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Evan Cook, the owner's brother. So far, they have raised nearly $30,000 with 246 individual donations.

On the page Cook said this charity is for any and all things not covered by insurance, this would include additional costs for the rebuilding of the restaurant.

“There is an incredible community of staff that works at the Old Marina, and we would love to be able to help them with whatever is needed; bills, groceries, anything,” said Cook.

Damage for the fire is estimated at over $2 million and the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown. More information on a cause is expected to come from fire officials this week.
