U of G to hold vigil for students killed in Iranian plane tragedy

Will take place at War Memorial Hall starting at 7 p.m.

The University of Guelph will hold a vigil Friday night for the two PhD students who perished in the Iranian plane tragedy on Wednesday.

The vigil for Ghanimat Azhdari and Milad Ghasemi Ariani will take place a War Memorial Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Azhdari was a was a PhD student in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics and was also a teaching assistant.

Ariani was a PhD student in the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies.

Both were on their way back to Canada after visiting family in Iran.

There were 63 Canadians among the 176 that died.

Flags on campus have been lowered to half mast.

Another of the victims was Dr. Parisa Eghbasian, a Caledon resident who was a dentist at Guelph's Dawson Dental. Eghbasian's daughter also died.
