Motorists, be especially careful right now on the short stretch of Highway 7 between Guelph and Rockwood.

Preliminary construction has began at the intersection of Highway 7 and Jones Baseline on a new roundabout that is expected to be completed by late spring of next year. The site is busy with workers, dump trucks and earth moving equipment.

The site is a treacherous one at the best of times, and the scene of numerous collisions over the years.

The impending construction of the roundabout was first announced by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation back in the spring. It involves a complete overhaul of the intersection, culvert replacement, the construction of storm sewers, and lighting.

In announcing the development, the ministry expressed confidence that roundabouts reduce collisions, keep traffic moving, and reduce noise.

Highway 7 curves sharply at the location. The work is marked well in advance. Be prepared to slow down or stop.
