Royals split weekend games

Royals manager and player both ejected in Saturday home loss

The Guelph Royals lost the game and manager Dino Roumel lost his cool Saturday at Hastings Stadium.

Toronto scored twice in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and roll to a 6-1 win.

The game featured a lengthy delay as Royals manager Dino Roumel and first baseman Josh Garton were both ejected. At one point the umpires left the field before returning.

Roumel later issued an apology for his behaviour on social media.

Dionysius Chialtas drove in Dan Marra with a triple to score the first seventh-inning run. Chialtas came around to score on a Justin Marra single two batters later.

Marcus Knecht drove in two on a pair of hits, Ryan Dos Santos had an RBI and two steals, and Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-5 and scored twice.

Max Lanoue (1-0) picked up the win in relief with two scoreless innings. He walked one and fanned five. Julian Valdez recorded the last six outs for his first save.

Marek Deska started for Toronto and went five innings, yielding a run on five hits with a walk and strikeout.

For Guelph (5-2), Brando Leroux drove in the only run on two hits. Evan Ashe went 3-for-3.

Rhys Montgomery (1-1) allowed two runs on five hits over two innings to take the loss. He struck out two.

Jacob Kush lasted six innings and gave up a run on three hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

On Friday Guelph won 6-2 in Brantford.

Guelph pulled ahead in the eighth on a two-run double from Mike Cecchetto.

Guelph reliever Yuki Narita fanned the side in the seventh inning to earn the win. Hector Yan started and went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Guelph plays in Brantford Friday and hosts Welland on Saturday afternoon.
