Meghan Andrews, our strong, energetic, talented, independent, inspirational daughter and wife passed away on Monday May 8, 2023 in Rockwood, Ontario, ending a courageous 14-year battle with Huntington Disease (HD); a genetic,incurable neurodegenerative illness. Meghan chose to use the services of Medical Assistance in Dying so that she would have control of her end.
She was born in Vancouver April 11, 1984, moving to Guelph in 1985. She graduated from John F. Ross High School in 2003 and from the photography program at Sheridan College in 2005. Meghan was a published author and internationally recognized wedding and travel photographer until HD interrupted her promising career path.
Meghan was preceded in death by her grandfather Andrews, father and uncle from the same disease. She was predeceased by her grandparents Roy and Jennette Painter of Guelph. She is survived and will be missed by her husband of 3 years, Joe Huynh, and her mother Christine (Painter) Andrews, her family and numerous in-laws, cousins and close friends.
Meghan was passionate about spreading awareness of HD. That passion spurred the release of her 2014 photo book “Trials and Triumphs” about Huntington Disease and she never gave up hope for a cure or treatment. As well as volunteering for the Huntington Society for years she also volunteered at Women’s Shelters.
At Meghan’s request, there will be no funeral. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
