It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George John Ashley Jr. on April 8, 2024, in his 83rd year. George was born in Guelph, on October 14, 1941 to parents George Sr (1969) and Margaret (nee Farrell - 1976).

George was well known in the sports community as a player, coach, referee and umpire. A three time inductee to the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame, he is a former NHL Linesman (1966-1971) and, in baseball, managed the Intercounty League Guelph C-Joys to the league championship in 1970. George was also a long time employee of Canada Post. Besides being an avid sports fan, George also loved to travel. He especially loved trips to Greece and spending winters in their home away from home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

George was a devoted family man who will be sorely missed, and his passing is mourned by his devoted, loving wife of 53 years, Susan (nee Pfaff), sons Todd (Adele), Shawn (Kayla) and Scott (Stephanie), and grandchildren Jessalyn, Alexandra, Abigail, Keaton, Sienna and Madelyn.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr Ellen Lee, Dr William Ruddock, Dr Lilliya Grebenyuk, Dr Cassie Graham and the staff of the 7th floor at GGH for their care, kindness and compassion during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph (519-821-5077). At his request, there will be no visitation, and a private family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospital For Sick Children or Guelph General Hospital would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made in person at the funeral home (cash and cheque accepted) or online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
