It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luis Avila on September 2nd, 2022 at the age of 76. Loving husband of 52 years to Iria Avila. Beloved father and best friend to Jerry Avila. Cherished Vo to Cindy Seke, Tony Avila and Lorenzo Avila. Dear brother of Luisa Avila Rodrigues, Otilia Alamo, Fernanda Jorge, Geraldine Cunha, Helena Avila, Noelia Avila and Adelino Machado. Predeceased by his parents Helena Luisa Pereira Avila and Luis Machado Avila, brother Manual Machado and sister Maria Melo. Will be fondly remembered by his many friends and his 72 nieces and nephews, his many brothers in-law and sisters in-law.

Luis was a hardworking man who valued precision, family and honest work done with his hands. As a child Luis considered his own father his best friend and he started working from an early age to help his parents. He loved to go to the Theatre to watch movies, dancing at the Festa’s, dressing well and fishing. Luis left his mother and father and the rest of his brothers and sisters and made the trip from the Azores to Toronto Canada in February 1971 to marry Iria on February 19, 1971. In 1975 Luis and Iria made their way to Guelph to buy their own home. Luis loved his family and together they raised their son Jerry. Luis loved spending time in his garden; making his home his own and he was always making something better or making something new…just always doing something. He was always willing to lend a hand to others and he especially enjoyed doing projects with his son and daughter-in-law Marijana. He loved his 1989 Pontiac Bonneville that he bought brand new and even built a garage with his own hands to store it. Luis loved to travel and had the chance to travel many times back to his home in St. Sebastian, Terceira, Azores, Portugal. But he also travelled with his family to Lisbon, Porto, Hawaii, cruising in the Caribbean, Madeira and all the islands in the Azores. He enjoyed his granddaughter’s company and Cindy would always make him smile and laugh. They were always joking around and shared their joy for little dogs. In recent years Luis grew a love for dogs and puppies and looked forward to spending time with them, especially his favorite, Pixie.

Luis dedicated over 30 years working at Prior Construction in Guelph with his nephews Caesar and Moises.
