BANNISTER, Marilyn Ann

Posted

Bannister Marilyn MM

At the age of 66 years, Marilyn passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and friends. She bravely fought cancer for over two years with determination and grace. She leaves behind her loving husband Paul, of nearly 41 years, daughter Courtney and son Bobbie (s: Scott). Her father (mother passed 2014), sister, brothers and in laws (two passed 2019, 2020), plus many nieces and nephews will all miss her dearly.

Marilyn was raised in Peterborough, ON but she and her family have called Guelph home for nearly 40 years. Marilyn’s first career was teaching preschool for over 35 years in Toronto and Guelph. After her preschool retirement, she worked as a senior companion, helping them to live independently and care for their needs. At the same time she was a host mom to 63 international students that hailed from 12 countries while they attended the University of Guelph over a 12 year period. Her students brought the family much joy, culture and love.

Marilyn and Paul (and often children) loved to travel. They explored the Caribbean, had several European adventures and visited most of North America. She was happiest being with family or gardening. She nurtured a spectacular garden filled with birds and butterflies. Marilyn loved her children and celebrated their accomplishments as they have grown into amazing adults.

Marilyn was a lover of Blue Jay’s Baseball and days at the dome with her hubby.  She loved the theatre, dance, photography and colouring.  Marilyn loved entertaining and was the most gracious hostess. She was a wonderful chef with an eye for detail, often hosting creative parties. She invested in many friendships that were lengthy and rich. Marilyn had a wonderfully unique laugh, beautifully bright smile and cared for those she loved with every bit of her soul.

We are grateful to the many wonderful doctors, nurses, homecare and pharmacists that worked together to give her 2 years full of life and smiles while she endured her cancer battle. She did things her own way and always tried to live the fullest life she could.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
