It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, nonno, brother, friend and mentor Alessandro (Sandy) Basciano. Sandy passed away in his 80th year on Saturday, November 19, 2022 surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 51 years Livia Basciano (nee Mancini), his sisters Nicoletta Figliuzzi (Franco) of Guelph and Felicetta Farina (Nicola) of Italy; his children, Rino Basciano and his wife Manuela, Maria Basciano and her partner Jonathan, and Adam Basciano and his wife Melissa. He is predeceased by his parents Gennarino and Maria Basciano, as well as his eldest brother Nicola Basciano. He will be immensely missed by his grandchildren Anthony, Alex, Joey and Makayla, who were always the twinkle in his eyes; as well as his many nieces and nephews both here and abroad.

Alessandro, or as he was widely known as Sandy was well known throughout the city as "Sandy the Barber"...an avid hockey fanatic; he would never miss a chance to catch a game, especially if one of his sons or grandsons were playing. His career as a barber spanned over 5 decades before he mentored his oldest son Rino and passed the reigns to him before he retired in 2012. Rino now carries on the tradition with his own shop "BarbeRinos". His only daughter Maria had already followed in her father's footsteps as a hairstylist for the past 25 years. Above all else, Sandy was a family man whose greatest happiness was being in the company of his "bella famiglia". Until the very end, Sandy was surrounded by the ones he loved and his presence at the head of the table will be greatly missed. Special thanks go to The Elliott Community especially the second floor nursing staff for their unwavering support and care.

Friends will be received at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son-Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 6 – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place 10 a.m., on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 409 Paisley Rd., Guelph. A private entombment will follow the Funeral Mass. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or The Elliott Community would be appreciated. Donations can be made online or in-person at the funeral home.
