BENNER, Greta Margaret

Posted

Benner Greta MM

Passed away peacefully at Lapointe-Fisher Nursing Home on Friday, January 28, 2021, at the age of 95.

Beloved wife of the late Bruce Kurp (1982). Loved mother of Nancy Watkinson (Grant), Lynn Kurp, Thomas Kurp and the late David Kurp (1992). Cherished grandmother of Jana DeVries (Travis), Kyle Watkinson (Liz) and Dylan Kurp and great grandmother of Maeryn DeVries and Brinn DeVries. Dear sister of Jim Finley.

Predeceased by her parents Vernon and Margaret Finley, and her siblings Helen Knox, Bob Finley and Marilyn Walsh.

Greta was a WWII Veteran, serving in the WRENS (Women’s Royal Canadian Navy) for two years stationed in Halifax, NS. She worked in the Finley family hardware store and later as a switchboard operator at Guelph’s St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Greta had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and she was a lady who always prayed for her family and friends. She lived many years in Guelph and after raising her children, she moved to Durham, followed by a move to Kincardine. At 85 years of age, she returned to Guelph to be close to her family.

Greta was wonderfully creative in crafts, painting and art pieces she welded after some welding classes. She had a great sense of humour and even as she declined in health, her humour still shone through.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.

Our family wish to extend our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Lapointe-Fisher Nursing Home for their kindness and care of our mother.

Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Greta M. Benner in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
