Bernard Julian MM

Julian Rollit Bernard was born in Toronto on July 25 1929, son of George Clarens Bernard and (Mary) Monica Rollit. A happy childhood and a largely dismal education were spent in Toronto.

Wartime vacations were taken in East Farnham or Iberville with grandparents. Later wartime travelling was to HMCS Fort Ramsey in Gaspe which initiated Julian's lifelong passion for trains and railways. After leaving school, he was employed by the Business Development Corporation where he remained until he retired.

In 1959 Julian married Ann Nind, newly arrived from England, who was the elder daughter of Eric Arthur Nind and Phoebe Dorothy Hart. Julian was a loving and devoted husband to Ann and a devoted father to Lesley (Paul McCluggage) of Tweed, Peter (Elizabeth Wilson) of Ottawa and Christopher (Kristy Beresford) and Pakka to Charles of Toronto. Julian's brother Michael (Bette) lives in Ottawa as does their daughter, Martha. Their son Matthew is in Vancouver. Ann's sister Mary Frances Murty and her daughters, Mala and Rita, live in London, Ontario.

He and Ann thank Dr. Shira Thomas, the staff of Paramed and Arbour Trails for their care during the last months. Julian lived with Parkinson’s Disease for 20 years and chose to Die with Dignity on March 05, 2022. At his request, his body is donated to the Human Anatomy Program of The University of Guelph.

If you would like to donate in Julian's memory, please consider the Nature Conservancy of Canada or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
