BOERSMA, Lutwina Christina Maria 'Ineke'

Posted

Boersma Lutwina MM
We are sad to announce the passing of Lutwina Christina Maria Boersma (fondly known as Ineke), at the age of 87.  She passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on March 24, 2021 with her sons Victor and Alexander at her side.  She was loved and will be missed by Victor and his two daughters Quinn (Alexander) and Shea, as well as Alexander (Mary) and their two children Riley and Anika.
Ineke was born on July 1, 1933 in Zandvoort, a small beach town in the Netherlands, where she grew up during the war as the youngest of a family of 12.  She fell in love with an injured air force technical specialist who she nursed back to health and then married.  She and her new husband Victor soon emigrated to Canada where they started building a life and family together, moving from various small towns in northern Quebec to Carleton Place, Ontario to Mountainview, California, back to Mississauga, and eventually Guelph where they retired in the Village by the Arboretum.  She survived her husband by 15 years.
Ineke was very fond of classical music and loved to sing.  She participated in many choirs throughout her life, singing with the Arboretum Village Singers until only a few years ago.  She practiced yoga long before yoga was fashionable, and even became a yoga instructor in the 80’s.  She was a devout Catholic, never missing a Sunday Mass until the last few years of her life when her health got the better of her.
Ineke will be remembered for the soft strength with which she faced life.  She was rarely outspoken, always sympathetic, and when she made her mind up about something, there was no turning her from it.  Those who knew her well will attest to the strength of character which lay quietly behind her unassuming manner.
Visitation will be on Sunday March 28 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph.
