Died peacefully on March 31, 2018, surrounded by family.

Derek was born in Brighton Sussex, England and married Diana Rosemary in 1950, celebrating 63 years of marriage before her death in 2013.

A WWII navy veteran, with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. Derek emigrated with his family to Canada in 1968 and had a long and successful career as an aeronautical engineer at Pratt and Whitney Canada. Derek was a world traveller with an inquisitive mind and agile wit. He was an aircraft enthusiast and his passion for fixing anything mechanical was matched with a broad interest in literature music and theatre.

He is survived by his children Anne Boyd (Ken Albert), Susan Watson (Kim) and Mark Boyd (Valerie), and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, and by his sister Alison. He will be greatly missed and always loved by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of St. James the Apostle, 86 Glasgow St. North, Guelph on Friday, April 6th, 2018 at 12:30 pm. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051.

A tree will be planted in memory of Derek I. Boyd in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 2:30 pm.
