Brown Joan MM

December 18, 1925 – May 4, 2022

Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, in her 97th year.

Joan was the daughter of Charles Oliver Christie, a veteran of the trenches of WW1 and Annie May Newstead who was raised on a farm in Eramosa Township. She was the sister of the late Judy (Frank) King and Charles Calvin (Janice) Christie. Wife of the late Dennis Curzon (1945) and Robert M. Brown (1975). Precious mother to David (Barbara) Curzon and Robert C. Brown. Grandmother to the late Christine Curzon, Sarah Curzon Gerrish and Greg (Margaret) Curzon. Aunt of Carrin and Toby Christie. Great grandmother to Paul, Ashley, Annie May, Jasmine and Evan. Great aunt of Jackson.

Great great grandmother.

Joan was born and grew up in Guelph where she attended King Edward and Central Public Schools and GCVI. She was a long-time loyal member of Norfolk Street United Church. A young war bride, she lost her first husband, Dennis, to WWII and her second husband, Robert, to heart disease. She was a strong, hard-working, independent person dedicated to her family and home. She found joy in all aspects of nature, whether it be tending her beautiful gardens, caring for her beloved kitties, feeding the birds, admiring and respecting wildlife, walking on a sandy beach or simply enjoying the warmth of the sunshine. Although home was central to her, in later years she took great pleasure in March Break trips to the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica.

Joan passed away enveloped by love in the home that she had loved for almost 70 years.

Thanks to all who in the past several years have helped support and care for mom and enrich her life.
