BUTLER, Shirley Evelyn - of Guelph, Ontario passed away peacefully on July 15, 2022, at the age of 90. She spent her final days in the excellent care of Hospice Wellington and in the company of family and loved ones.
Shirley grew up in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, then started a career as an x-ray technician in Ottawa, where in 1958 she married Arthur Edward Butler (passed 2016). Shortly after, they moved to the U.S. where she raised a family, pursued diverse interests, and ultimately enjoyed a successful career in real estate. In 2001, after several years of retirement they returned to Canada and made their home in Guelph. Here, she was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, an avid attendee of the performing arts, and supporter of charitable causes.
Shirley will be dearly missed and always remembered by her family and friends in Canada and the U.S. She is survived by her brother Robert Ingraham and his family; her daughter Ellen Butler of Austin, TX; son Robert Butler and his wife Marian of Guelph; and her grandchildren: Olivia Butler and Dan Butler of Guelph, and Sam Butler and wife Sarah of Austin, TX, along with their two children Lily and Jamie.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life to be held on Thursday, August 25, at Arbor Trails senior residence, 32 Bayberry Drive in Guelph. Join us in the Town Hall room at 2 p.m. Masks are required and rapid COVID testing is conducted in the lobby for all visitors, so please allow 15 minutes for that process.
