Mary was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and moved to Hespeler at the age of 16 where she met her husband Frank whom she referred to as ‘Zank’ and he gave her the nickname ‘Shorty’. They married and had 5 children. She was very proud of her Newfie background and shared many stories of growing up back home.

Mary was a fun and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was small but mighty, very energetic, loved to watch her children and grandchildren in any sport or activity they were involved in, loved music and loved to dance. She played Guelph Ladies Slow Pitch for 24 years until she was 75 years old and she 10 pin bowled in Guelph up to her mid 80’s. She would never admit to being old and always wanted to be around young people.

The family would like to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to Dr. Stickney and the amazing staff in the Maple Ridge ward of Wellington Terrace for the outstanding care they provided to Mary. Special thanks and big hugs to the nurses Rebecca and Meagan who were so compassionate and loving to Mary.

The family will receive their relatives and friends for visitation at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 6-8 pm. A private family service will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 10:30 am. Guests may attend remotely via Zoom by using the link on the funeral home website. Burial to follow at New Hope Cemetery, Hespeler. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date to be announced.

As expressions of sympathy please make any donations to Wellington Terrace.
