Pierina Casagrande (nee DeMarchi) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday, December 12th, 2021, at the age of 80 in Guelph, Ontario. Daughter of the late Pietro and Cecilia DeMarchi (nee Rebellato). Beloved wife of 55 years to Alfio Casagrande and cherished mother to Roberta (Bruno Maltais) Casagrande, Eddy (Mary) Casagrande, and Gianni (Shannon) Casagrande. Daughter-in-law of the late Augusto and Maddalena Casagrande (nee Scomazzon). Adored Nonna to Francesca, Paul, Peter, Grace, Emma, Thomas, and Cole.

Loving sister to Luciano (Milva, dec.) DeMarchi, Giuseppe (Antonia) DeMarchi, Lucia (Bruno, dec.) Volpato, Teresina (Armando) Fior, Eugenia (Livio) Bergamin, and Antonio DeMarchi. Sister-in-law to the late Maria Rosa and Giovanni Grobbo, Agnese Fantin, and Angelo (Ana) Casagrande. Zia to many nieces and nephews. All of Italy.

Pierina was a strong advocate of her Roman Catholic faith and was known for her involvement in the church and community. She always put her family first and was always there to support her children. Her grandchildren brought great joy to her, and she was always there to lend a helping hand. Pierina was always up for trying new things and always had the same passion and dedication in new pursuits as she had toward family. She always had the door open for whoever rang and greeted them with enthusiasm and grace.

Pierina was born in Salvarosa di Castelfranco, Veneto, Italy, where (from modest beginnings) she began to learn her craft as a seamstress, discovered her sense of style, and developed her love of gardening. She later immigrated to Canada in 1966, where she soon married and began to build her life grounded in family, faith, and community. Both she and her husband worked hard to ensure their Italian culture remained strong within their family, and they would revisit their roots many times over the years.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Health Centre for their kindness and compassionate care of Pierina at the end of her full and beautiful journey.
