It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Castellarin on November 2nd, 2022 at the age of 85.

Beloved wife of the late Umberto "Berto" Castellarin (1997). Loving mother of Diana Artuso (Gerard), Cory Castellarin (Monique). Proud "Nonna" of Aaron (Kate) Artuso, Alessandra Artuso, Ava and Tea Castellarin and “Bis-nonna” to James and Harrison Artuso.

Survived by her sister Giuliana and by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Predeceased by her parents Osvaldo and Gina.

Maria met the love of her life, Berto, and was married in San Giovanni di Casarsa on July 25, 1959 and immigrated to Canada in December 1959 to join her husband and start a family.

Maria was a kind and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law and friend. She was extremely independent and the picture of strength inside and out. She was incredibly hardworking and possessed what seemed like an endless amount of energy for family, friends, faith and served the community by volunteering at Sacred Heart Parish for over 20 years and St Joseph Health Centre for over 15 years.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care mom received by Dr Spadafora and staff at Bayshore Home Health. We would also like to thank the health care providers and volunteers at Hospice Wellington. Your care and compassion were more than we would have ever expected. Special thank you to Father Boyd of Holy Rosary Parish who visited mom during her time of greatest need.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. Visitation will take place on Sunday November 6th, 2022 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with a Vigil at 3:30pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 98 Alice St, Guelph, on Monday November 7th, 2022 at 10:30am. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
