It is with great sadness to announce the death of Ian Costello. Ian
peacefully passed away in his home on Friday, May 17, 2019. Ian had
suffered a bilateral brainstem stroke and bravely battled since 2004. He
had wonderful support through it all by his loving partner of 35 years,
Elaine Garner.
He will be forever remembered by his three children, Ray (Darlene), Ken
(Lorrain) and Lynn Fox (Jay), and his three wonderful grandchildren,
Madison and Mackenzie (Ray and Darlene) and Ty Fox (Lynn and Jay). He is
also survived by his friend and the childrens mother, Ivy Costello.
Ian has a brother Donald Costello of Kentucky and was predeceased by a
younger brother James.
Ina Powell and his stepfather John are predeceased as well as his father
Patrick Costello.
He will also be grieved by several nieces and nephews as well as
grandnieces and grandnephew on Elaines side of the family, who loved him
and taught him how to hug.
John Godin, Elaines brother, and his partner Connie will also miss him.
Their help with Ian is extremely appreciated.
Ian was born in Jamaica and immigrated to the US and then Canada when he
was seventeen. He became an accountant, and later found his passion in
computers.
Ian loved sports, particularly running and playing soccer. Ian was the
head of the Mississauga Track Club for years. He was referred to as Mr. C,
or Coach C. His sons Ray and Ken also participated. Ian coached national
and international athletes. He enjoyed heading off to see the Guelph Storm
play with good friend Bob Gorman.
He loved cooking and hosting parties. He was famous for his annual Sausage
Fests. He would go to the farmers market when it was held in the parking
lot at Market Square, in Kitchener. It was a social event as he went from
the meat stalls to the fishmonger.
Ian loved life and was a friend and a teacher to many. Bastian, Walter and
their children were special to him.
Thank you to Lilibeth and Dennis, his special PSWs who looked after him
over the years. Also,,thank you to all the friends and family who visited
and supported Ian when he was dying.
.At the Celebration of Life we will be toasting Ian with his favourite
drink from Jamaica,, Rum.
The Celebration of Life will take place: Saturday June 1st, 2019 from
1:00pm-4:00pm, at the Guelph Country Club 133 Woodlawn Rd East, Guelph, On
