Marjorie Mabel Cowan passed away suddenly April 21, 2024 at Guelph General Hospital at the age of 79. Loving daughter of Mabel and Sydney Cowan and much cherished sister of Jennifer Braun (David), Auntie to Jordan Braun (Carrie and children Parker and Maddox) of Berkeley, California and Mason Braun (Danya and son Duncan) of Oakville ON.

Marjorie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and emigrated to Guelph in 1954 with her family.

Marj was admired for her joyful and high spirited nature. All who knew her were impressed by her determination and independence.  Marj’s greatest passion was travel and adventure and she travelled much of the world.  Her other love was her faithful little dog Tilly.

Marj graduated GCVI in 1964, went on to McMaster University graduating with a BA, a Bachelor of Physical Education and then a High School Specialist Teaching Certificate from the UofT.  She taught at Highland Secondary School Dundas and Brantford Collegiate Institute.  After a few years travelling in Europe, Marj eventually settled in London England working for the British Civil Service in the Manpower Services Commission as a Senior Training Advisor and Policy Development. She later transferred to Sheffield UK where she made her home and worked for SCALE Constants until retiring in 2006.

After retiring, Marjorie returned to Guelph. She loved Guelph and being with Jennifer and Dave and their boys and grandchildren. She was especially happy in her apartment at Arbor Trails.

We thank Dr. Anusoumya Ganapathy and the nurses in ICU at GGH, especially Nurse Paige, for their wonderful care.  We greatly appreciate all the support from our family and many great friends.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.  Donations to the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto or the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital would be greatly appreciated .

Arrangements entrusted to the Brombal Funeral Home & Cremation Care Ltd. One Delhi Street, Guelph, Ontario.
