Of Guelph, Ontario passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Care Centre on January 13, 2018. He was in his 93rd year. John immigrated to Canada from England in 1948 after training as a navigator in the Royal Air Force. Once in Canada he worked for Harding carpets in Guelph and for Doehler Canada in Hamilton and later in Guelph. While at Doehler Canada, John studied accounting and was awarded his designation as an Industrial Accountant. John is survived by his wife, Mary (née Cann) of sixty-seven years. John and Mary raised his three daughters in Burlington, Ontario and was a devoted husband and father. He is also survived by his three daughters, Linda (Michael) Butters of Nova Scotia, Jan (Bill) Fischer of Guelph, Ontario and Susan (Dave) Shody of Guelph, Ontario; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brother Fred, granddaughter Leanne Butters and best friend Dan Regan. A private funeral service was held on January 17, 2018 at Wall-Custance Funeral Home and Chapel on Norfolk Street in Guelph. Cremation will be arranged by the Funeral Home and burial will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family have invited donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in John's memory.
