CROTEAU, Roger Joseph

Croteau Roger

On what would have been their 60th wedding anniversary, on June 9, 2022, Roger went to be with his beloved Carol (2008).

He passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, ON. He was the proud, supportive father of Rolland (Kim) and Coreen (Joe). Much loved Papa of R.J., Jaclyn (Cory), Jayme (Branden) and Samantha (Bryce). Great grandfather of Wyatt. Dear brother of Anne (the late Mike), the late Michael, the late Gail, all of Nova Scotia and the late Debbie of Alberta. Also left to remember and celebrate Roger is his partner Deb, their fur baby Muffin and Deb’s extended family. He will be fondly remembered by his in-law family, Linda Bourget (Gilles), David Way, Orly Negus, Donny LaPierre, Judy French, Frank Matthews, Max Smith, former son-in-law, Mike Shivji, former brother-in-law, Eric Bellefontaine and his many nieces, and nephews.

Roger was affectionately known as Wally to his childrens’ friends when they were growing up because he styled his hair like Wally Cleaver in “Leave It To Beaver”. Roger brought his family to Ontario from Nova Scotia in 1967 to work at Fiberglas Canada (now Owens Corning), where he kept machines in running order as a maintenance mechanic for more than 30 years. He was seldom seen without his little red “snap it” cap on. Throughout his life, Roger performed with several bands, playing guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, fiddle – just about any instrument you put in his hands. He spent his retirement years in Southampton; fishing and tinkering – there are many “Rogerized” mechanical items around his house! Roger’s loved ones wish to thank his family doctor, Dr. David Billings of Southampton for being so supportive to Dad and the rest of us. We are not asking for donations to any charity, but rather to do a kind deed for someone and think of Roger.

Cremation has taken place. The family will be placing his urn with Carol’s at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, (519-824-0031).  We invite you to leave your memories online at www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
