Curry, Jessie Elizabeth (Bonnell)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Elizabeth Curry in her 88th year on Friday June 30,2023 at home with her loving family by her side. Jessie will be sadly missed by her children Debbie Curry, Angela Curry and Calvin Curry (Andrea) and granddaughter Morgan Curry. Survived by her sister Florence Hopkins, (the late Eddy), brother John Jim Bonnell (Yvonne) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Lisa Curry, her parents William and Sarah (McEachern) Bonnell, brother William “Billy” Bonnell, sisters Mary Bonnell, and Nettie MacPhee (Elmer)

Jessie grew up in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia where she attended school and later graduated from St Joseph's School of Nursing class of 1955. She worked a short time in Glace Bay before adventuring off to the United States to work in Boston, New York and California. She returned to Canada and worked in Brantford, Ontario before going back to Glace Bay to start a family. She took time off of nursing to raise her children and while doing that she opened the Oceanview Nursery School. She also volunteered her time to many organizations over the years such as Alternative measures Youth Initiatives, Young offenders . She continued to give her time to help others whenever or however she was needed even after she returned to Nursing. To mom laughter was the best medicine. Always making people smile or laugh. She loved to joke around. She also loved dancing, music, reading and later in life darts at the Evergreen Centre. Most of all she loved her children. Her pride and joy. We are who we are because of her love. She is the perfect mother.

We would like to thank Dr Hutton, Dr Shafir and the nurses at Bayshore. Cremation has taken place. A private service and a celebration of life will take place in Cape Breton at a later date to be announced.

Donations to Covenant House, Alzheimer's Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements under the direction of Brombal Funeral Home & Cremation Care, One Delhi Street, Guelph (www.brombal.ca)
