On October 31st Herbert George Dempsey passed away in his 92nd year after a brief illness at home. He was born May 30th 1929 in Guelph Ontario. In 1954 he established Dempsey Construction and later DRD Excavators. In 1985 he built the iconic fountain in downtown Guelph with the artists William McElcheran’s bronze statue “The Family” at the center. Herbert’s passion for building continued outside of work. He could often be found outside on his property landscaping, building ponds, and planting gardens. He was also a passionate woodworker and spent many evenings in his shop building intricate wooden model trains and furniture. He is survived by his loving wife Diana of 42 years and will be missed by his remaining family. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and a private ceremony was held.
