Determann, Michael Alexander

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Michael A. Determann announce his passing on March 7, 2024, just four days short of his 69th birthday.

Mike is pre-deceased by his parents Hubert and Lucy (Sehnke) and his brother Brian and sister-in-law Kris (McHaffie). He is survived by his best friend Terry Anne Howard, Ken (Joanne), Steve (Charlotte), Elaine (Gary Shusta), nieces and nephews who often referred to him as “Uncle Buck” and great nieces and nephews.

Mike’s gruff exterior hid a heart that was genuine and kind. Mike befriended and took care of many feral cats, with two who were very dear to him, Fred and Peanut.

Mike held a special relationship with his brothers Brian (Hoss), Ken (Louie) and Steve (Stan), solving the world’s problems over a glass of beer or rum and good food.

He was a protective and supportive “Big brother” to Elaine, leaving her with many cherished memories. He and his brother-in-law, Gary, held a special bond.

Mike was a positive role model to his siblings, encouraging them to go out in the world and enjoy life.

Mike loved and was so proud of his nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed making them laugh with his “poop” chats. It was always a joy to watch him with them, especially these last few months.

When Mike was diagnosed with cancer, his family rallied around him, visiting him often. Laughs shared at Elaine’s family dinners with Mike and Terry Anne usually providing the entertainment, are memories held forever in our hearts.

Mike and Terry Anne shared a special friendship and love. She was a Godsend to our family as she cared for Mike selflessly and with such devotion until his final day. There are no words to thank her for all that she has done. Terry Anne is forever a part of our families.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful care Mike received from his palliative care team, Dr. Celine Sandor, Benadetta, his primary nurse. Thank you to Hospice Wellington for making his last days peaceful.

A celebration of life for Mike’s family and friends to be held at a future date.
