Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre LTC Guelph on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the age of 97 years. Born and raised in Upper Island Cove, Newfoundland. On coming to Ontario, Mary worked at Harding Yarns Textiles. Beloved wife of the late John “Star” Fairless (2002). They were proud members of the St. George’s Park community. They tended their fruit/vegetable garden with raspberries that got praise in the Guelph Mercury. Mary was known for her home-made fudge and cookies that got distributed to the neighbours at Christmas, along with Crown Royal to celebrate New Year’s resolutions. Dear sister of Isabel Forget and Sedric Jones of Sydney, Cape Breton Island. Fondly remembered by “Star’s” son, J.E. “Ted” Fairless (late Doris 2019) of Cambridge and his family: Ron (Martha), Mark of Kitchener, Brent (Bri Anna) of Cambridge and Rick of Guelph, many nieces, nephews and by her dear friend Diane Yates (nee Wilson) of Collingwood. Predeceased by her parents Jack Jones and Pearl Smith and by her siblings Myrtle, Ernest, Melvin and by Star’s son Douglas and daughter in law Noreen. Cremation has taken place.
