Sister Giovanni Finoro, CSJ

(Angelina Finoro)

The Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph in Canada announce the peaceful death of Sister Giovanni Finoro in the care centre at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London Ontario on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Angelina Finoro was born on December 3, 1936, in Guelph, Ontario and was received into the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Hamilton on September 8, 1953.  She is remembered with affection by her CSJ Sisters, brother John and wife Maria Finoro, sister Mary Finoro, nieces Anita Connor, Lynn Sorbara and Laura Baker, and nephews Andrew and Michael Finoro and their families. Sister Giovanni was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Vito Finoro, brothers John and Nick Finoro and brother-in-law Dino Finoro.

For 27 years, Sister Giovanni ministered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton, in a variety of managerial positions, including the Business Office, admissions Department, switchboard, and General Information.  Upon retirement, her love and commitment to St. Joseph’s Hospital remained strong. Therefore, she returned to volunteer at the Information desk, where her warmth and gracious disposition were always evident.  In Sister Giovanni’s lifelong ministry, she and her dear friend Sr. Patricia Hanlon recognized the importance of maintaining relationships with hospital staff.  They provided pastoral outreach to employees by visiting them in their homes, hospitals, nursing homes and funeral homes.  Together, they were true witnesses of love and compassion which helped to sustain people during their most difficult times.  This caring and love were also extended to their sisters in community through phone calls, greetings and sending small gifts on special occasions.

In the spring of 2019, Sister Giovanni was welcomed along with other Hamilton sisters into the London Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph.  She will be remembered for her kindness, gracious disposition, and the gratitude she expressed for the care she was given in her final years.

All services will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 485 Windermere Road, London, Ontario.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 16th, from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 17th at 11:00 am. Interment on Tuesday, July 18th at Marymount Cemetery, 5400 Highway 6 North, Guelph Ontario at 11:00am. All are invited.
