Age 83, passed away peacefully in his home due to natural causes. He was the proud father of Tony, Enzo, and Frances (Rob) Snyder. George is survived by his brother Angelo (Bonnie) Fonte of Fergus and Silvio (Maria) Fonte of Italy, his sisters: Silvana Fonte (Vincenzo Mileto), Natalina Fonte (Cosentino Vincenzo) and Theresa ( the late Domenic) Adderio of Welland.
He is predeceased by his parents Francesca (Mammoliti) and Annuziato Fonte; by his sister and brother in-law Maria (Vince) Carere, and also by his brother and sister in-law Frank (Theresa) Fonte. George will be remembered by many nieces and nephews and his fur baby cat, Gimijelo.
George was born March 24, 1939, in San Giorgio Morgeto, a little town in Italy. He left home at 16 to go work in Rome before coming to Canada at the age of 21. He retired from Engel Canada as a machinist. In his retirement you could either find him working in his garden or walking throughout the city of Guelph, especially along the river.
George had a very tough life, he was a son, brother, father, uncle, and friend. I know he is now wrapped in the wings of his guardian angel, and all who are there to greet him are whispering you are loved, and you are blessed, welcome home.
Funeral service will be held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Marymount Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions made to Diabetes Canada, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated.
