GANDOUR Gloria Magdalan

It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that we say goodbye to Gloria. Surrounded and comforted by the love of her family, Gloria passed away at the Guelph General Hospital on Monday, April 2, 2018 in her 88th year. Of Lebanese descent, Gloria was a fiercely independent woman and she made her way through life with stubbornness, faith and optimism. She was a very giving person and she loved life, but her priorities were: her family, her faith and her passion for cooking. Gloria was devoted to her family, daughter of the late Catherine (Gandour) Gregory: Mary Gandour, Jim and Rosalie Gregory, late Raymond and Cheri Gregory, Gary and Karen Gregory, Rosemary and Larry DeGrace, Sharon and Ted Pitts, Pat and Margaret Gregory and her many nieces and nephews and cousins. She spoke lovingly of them often, was proud of their accomplishments and looked forward to and enjoyed family get-togethers. Gloria was a beloved fixture at the Basilica Of Our Lady Immaculate and a loyal supporter of the many clergy members that she came into contact with through her life. She had a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother and she prayed fervently for the many intentions of her family and friends. She was a long time member of the Basilica Catholic Women’s League and she willingly offered her time as a reliable and faithful volunteer with numerous Guelph organizations. Ultimately though, Gloria was happiest in a kitchen. Much of her employment through her life revolved around food and food preparation. She served many years as a cook and housekeeper at a variety of locations in Guelph. But most of all, she loved baking! Her specialties were: loaves of bread, butter tarts, pizzelles, peanut butter balls and spinach pies. An early riser, she would play her music, sing and pray as she prepared her many culinary delights.

And, the remarkable thing about Gloria is that she generously gave it all away!

*Well done, Gloria, good and faithful servant! You have earned your place in heaven where there are many rooms in our Father’s house. He has prepared a place for you. Don’t forget your apron!*
