December 31, 1936 – November 21, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June in her 85th year. June was the beloved sweetie of her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Joseph Gauthier. She was a loving mom to Lisa and Reid Cleland, and Shelley Gauthier and Al Haworth, and adored by her grandchildren Jeff, Holly, Jack and Will. Loved sister of Marie and Robert (deceased) O’Brien and Harry and Lynn Moon. Predeceased by her parents Ivy and Henry Moon. June will be fondly remembered by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, including brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Margaret Gauthier who helped so much in her final years.

June was born and raised in Mimico. She loved to dance, enjoy big-city life and spend time at the family cottage at Wendake Beach, Georgian Bay. As a newlywed she moved to Peel Village in Brampton, raised her girls and became fast friends with many other new parents in the neighbourhood. June and Lawrence loved to entertain in their home and in the backyard around the pool. Family vacations included day tripping, camping and of course cottaging. June loved going for a walk to “the creek”, as well as just laying out working on her tan. Playing cards and golfing were also favourite pastimes. Always one who loved to get dressed up, June enjoyed her sales position in the womens’ clothing department at Simpsons. She continued her love of working with people as a customer service rep with the Royal Bank. As empty-nesters, June and Lawrence moved to Barrie where they enjoyed boating, visits from family, and world travel. Some years later, they further simplified their life, moving to Aberfoyle, knowing that June had Alzheimer’s. They chose a cozy little house by a stream where they could relax, play Scrabble and let the world come to them. Lawrence cared for June, with all the love and dedication that she had shown him throughout their long and happy marriage.

Over the course of her life, June touched the hearts of many. Always nurturing, patient, and kind, June led by example, caring for others so they could grow and thrive. She was fun loving but also dignified and polite. Always ready to help, June gave time and energy to friends and family, she was there when needed while never getting in the way. June thought the world of her grandchildren, and spent as much time as distance would allow, tirelessly caring for them and playing with them. Giving others what they needed was June’s great gift.

June passed away peacefully after a long, slow decline with Alzheimer’s. The family would like to thank the staff at Cambridge Country Manor where June was cared for in her last few years of life. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Donations to Alzheimer’s charities would be greatly appreciated.
