It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Gillis at the Guelph General Hospital on January 24, 2024 at the age of 89 years.

Beloved husband of Shirley Gillis (nee Robinson). Loving father of Randy Gillis (Joanne) and Laurie Gillis (Sean O’Donnell). Cherished grandfather of Alicia and Tara. Will be missed by special family members, Tri Le (Chau Pham) and their sons Gabriel and Gavyn. Survived by his sister Jean Lamothe (Morris) and by his nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws. Predeceased by his parents Jack Gillis, Margaret Gillis and his brother Roger Gillis.

John was a Retired Police Officer who proudly served with the Guelph Police Service for 33 years. Prior to that, he played hockey at a competitive level with the Guelph Biltmores, Sudbury Wolves and within the development program of the Montreal Canadiens.

The family extends a special thank you to all staff on the Wellington Neighbourhood at The Elliott Community for their kind and compassionate care.

As per John’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for immediate family.

As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to Parkinson Society or The Elliott Community. Share online condolences and tributes at www.brombal.ca.
