It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucia (Nee Simeoni) on Sunday, May 7 in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of Tarcisio, for over 60 years. Loving mother of Laura Furfaro (George), Lina Starr (Tim Law), Joe (Carmen Underwood) and Paul (Christine.) Cherished Nonna of Robert, Steven, Francesca, Krystal, Taylor, Logan and Rylan. Lucia is survived by siblings: Reginetta (Luigi), Giovanni (Antonietta), Pierina, Teresina (Roberto), Luigino (Teresa) Simeoni; in-laws: Lina, Angelo (Giovanna) and Caterina Gobbi in Italy.
She is predeceased by her brother Egidio, in-laws: Leonio Bertollo, Giovanni Soligo in Italy, Giovachino and Roma Gobbi in Guelph.
She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, both in Canada and Italy. Lucia arrived in Canada in November, 1956 and 4 days later married the love of her life, Tarcisio at Sacred Heart Church. She loved caring for her family, cooking delicious meals, looking after her home, playing bocce, dancing with dad, and enjoying her friends. She showed great courage in these last few months.
Visitation will be at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Wednesday, May 10 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 98 Alice Street, Guelph on Thursday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Marymount Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St Joseph’s Health Centre or Sacred Heart Church building fund would be appreciated.
